What you learn in a mixology class

A good class is hands-on from the first ten minutes. Each guest gets a station with tools, ice, and ingredients and makes every drink themselves. Over roughly 90 minutes to two hours you cover balance (spirit, sweet, sour, dilution), the core techniques of shaking, stirring, building, and muddling, garnish and presentation, and three to four cocktails, usually a classic like an Old Fashioned or Margarita, a shaken sour, and a signature drink built around the group. Our instructors also teach introductory flair (bottle spins, flips, and working flair moves) for groups that want the fun factor turned up.

Mixology class formats in Houston

Corporate team-building classes. The most popular format we run. We come to your office, venue, or a private room, set up individual stations, and run a competitive or collaborative session for 10 to 100 people. Companies book these for quarterly offsites, client appreciation nights, and holiday parties. Non-alcoholic versions are available for daytime events.

Private group classes. Bachelorette and bachelor parties, birthdays, girls’ nights, and date-night groups of 6 to 30 at your home or a venue of your choice.

Professional bartending classes. Multi-session training for people who want to bartend for a living, covering craft cocktails, speed, flair, bar setup, and TABC certification guidance. Taught in English and Spanish at the J Martini Academy.

How much does a mixology class cost in Houston?

Group and corporate classes are priced per person and depend on group size, the number of cocktails, and whether we’re supplying the spirits or you are. Professional academy courses are priced per program. Contact us with your headcount and date and we’ll send a same-day quote; groups over 20 get the best per-person rate.

Who teaches the classes

J Martini instructors are working bartenders with 20-plus years in Houston hospitality, national flair and craft competition wins, and event experience with the Houston Texans, Diageo, HEB, and Wolfgang Puck. That matters because a mixology class is only as good as the person running the room: you want someone who can teach a beginner a perfect shake and also keep 60 coworkers laughing.

What’s included

Every class includes instructor-led instruction, a bar station per guest or pair, tools and ice, mixers and garnishes, recipe cards to take home, setup and breakdown, and our TABC-certified staff. Add-ons include a flair bartending show, molecular mixology (liquid nitrogen and dry ice), custom edible-logo cocktails for corporate branding, and full mobile bar service after the class so the party keeps going.
